As an American, the right to bear arms is central to our belief. Among many things, it would make it exceedingly hard for a dictator to rise up and use military to suppress the American people because of this simple Amendment. A free people are not free unless they have the right to maintain for their own freedom. 

"A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed."
